Job Description
The Furniture packer role reports to the Production Manager and is a hands-on position which will be responsible for assembling or constructing shipping containers and packing various types of furniture. The Furniture Packer will be required to read orders, quality inspect, determine best packing method, operate a box machine and construct the appropriate containers and prepare for safe shipment. This job has a wide variety of responsibilities including:
Review orders and ensure the proper quality and quantity have been received
Determine the container in which the product will be packed – cardboard or wood along with the dimensions
Build the container
Operate cardboard box-making machine
Drilling, screwing, sawing, nailing, hammering
Brace furniture for stability – strap container or apply plastic/foam securing furniture for shipment
Insert finished products in safe shipping containers
Assist in the cleaning as necessary
Label shipping container as specified
Shrink wrap or plastic wrap
Weigh and transfer data to dimension sheet with combined order for logistics
Assist in the unloading and loading of materials as necessary
Please note: Hightower offers 40 hours of available work each week. To work 40 hours, you may need to move to another job to complete the full 40 hours
Required Skills and Experience:
Ability to read and understand order requirements
Count parts for accuracy
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs parts into and out of shipping cartons with proper care
Use material handling equipment
Measure
Use power tools like saws, nail guns, heat shrink
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods standing and performing repetitive tasks
Must be able to lift, push up to 50 pounds at a time
Must have manual dexterity in order to assemble packing materials as directed
Must be able to occasionally bend at the waist, squat, kneel, and crouch
Must have excellent hand-eye coordination
Must wear eye protection
